Task 1

The fabrication department must manufacture thick-walled steel cylinders for liquids which are subjected to internal pressures. Using the following information, determine:

TANK AND SERVICE DETAILS.
Internal diameter : 200mm
External Diameter : 300mm
Internal Pressure : 70MPa
External Pressure : 40MPa
Maximum Hoop Stress : 30MM/m²
a) The Hoop and Radial Stress at the inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder
b) The Longitudinal Stress, if the cylinder is assumed to have closed ends.
