As a technology coach, the ability to integrate educational technology and multimedia effectively at the lesson and unit plan level is a crucial skill. Of primary importance is the ability to select tools/media that support best practices in instructional design to create technology-based learning experiences that truly help students learn.
Select a 3-5 day project-based learning unit that you could implement with students in the content area and grade level where you currently work or are most interesting in working. The unit should incorporate, at minimum, five technology-based tools/media that can support the students' content and concept development. The tools/media selected must support best practices in instructional design for technology-based learning experiences. The plan must include a summative assessment. Complete the "Multimedia Unit Planning Template" and ensure the following when planning the unit:
1. Align to state content area standards, the ISTE Standards for Students, and the ISTE Standards for Educators.
2. Utilize an educational technology tool/multimedia to create interest as part of the anticipatory set.
3. Utilize an educational technology tool/media to increase student engagement.
4. Utilize an educational technology tool/media to provide instruction, including differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of students who require assistive technology, modifications/accommodations, are English language learners, and/or gifted students/early finishers.
5. Utilize an educational technology tool/media to complete student assessments, either formative, summative, or both.
6. Utilize an educational technology tool/media to create a project-based learning assignment.
7. Explain how the tools/media may need to be applied differently depending on whether the learning environment is synchronous or asynchronous.
8. Create the artifacts that would be used with students are part of the technology tool/media integration for the lesson. Provide links to the artifacts associated with each tool/media resource.
