Case: The purpose of this assignment is to apply the critical race theory and concept of White supremacy as an analytical tool to understand racism, bias, and social inequality. Drawing on your work experience, internship, or volunteer, you will identify one social policy or practice that would exemplify with critical race theory or critical White studies approaches as described in Gilborn (2005). Describe the policy of interest. Explain how this policy exemplifies the reading. Does the policy challenge the premises put forth by Gilborn? This paper should not exceed 2,000 words.

For example, the state of Oregon prohibited people without a social security number or permanent residents card, from being issues a state driver's license. At a time when the State's general budget was in a deficit they reversed this ruling. The legislature allowed people to use documentation such as Consular Identification Cards, to apply for state drivers licenses. People may have Consular Identification Cards if they are not authorized to be in the United States. The licenses looked different than those issued to citizens and permanent residents, have to be renewed every 2 years (as opposed to 10 years) and cost more. The new law added 4 million dollars to the State's annual budget. This example is only intended to provide clarity about a policy that could be analyzed from a critical race theory perspective.
