Current Pulses over a Twisted Pair Telephone Line

A twisted pair telephone line has a constant attenuation between 0 Hz and 3300 Hz and linear phase shift with frequency. The line is used to send binary digital data as polar NRZ pulses of current . The transmitter and receiver have ideal RRC filters with = 1.0.

a. What is the maximum rate at which current pulses can be sent over this link?

b. The bandwidth of the line can be extended to 5000 Hz with an equalizer. If improved RRC filters with = 0.5 are used, what is the new maximum bit rate?
