Consider a hypothetical frog - the blue spotted frog. Over time, the leg shape of blue spotted frog populations has diverged. Blue spotted frogs living in ponds with very clear water, and little vegetation has a slimmer body shape (which helps them swim faster to escape predators). Those living in murky ponds with more vegetation have a bulkier bodies. A scientist caught blue spotted frogs in the field from clear water populations and from murky water populations and brought them into contact in the lab. She found that female blue-spotted frogs prefer to mate with males with similar body shapes to their own.

1. Based on the definition of adaptation from the lecture, what would have to be true about the trait of body shape for it to be an adaptation?

2. Identify if this is an example of a pre-zygotic barrier or post-zygotic barrier. Describe the most likely type of pre/post zygotic barrier.
