Examines the role of information systems in business and other types of organisations. It discusses the different types of information systems and associated infrastructure and factors involved in developing, acquiring and implementing these systems. The unit also identifies the latest Information systems trends and examines the potential impacts and issues associated with the introduction of these technologies.

Learning Outcome 1: Critically evaluate how technology can enable an organisation's core business processes and support the strategic goals.

Learning Outcome 2: Analyse and comprehend the issues that arise with the acquisition and adoption of technology and recommend possible solutions.

Learning Outcome 3: Critically evaluate the ways in which information technology can contribute to organisational innovation, efficiency and overall corporate performance.

Learning Outcome 4: Critically analyse and evaluate the key issues, challenges and opportunities associated with the latest developments in Information Systems.

ASSESSMENT 1: CLASS ACTIVITY CONTRIBUTION

The purpose of the Class Activity Contribution is to reinforce students' knowledge on lecture and class tutorial activities and to reflect on the nature of their relation to IT in Business. Students will be required to complete class activities at specific points throughout the semester. Activities may involve a pre-class preparation, during class discussion and post-class reflection. Students will be required to complete any pre-class tasks and actively contribute during lecture and in the class presentations.

ASSESSMENT: RESEARCH PAPER

Students will be expected to complete a critique and conduct a literature review on a specific topic in Information Technology. A student will be required to conduct research in regards to their assigned topic and how this topic relates to Information Technology in Business, either for advantage or any possible detriment.
