You have discovered a new species of antelope that has particularly long legs that you name Dadduus longlegednis. When you examine the motor axons from a number of specimens, you notice that some of them seem to be suffering from some degree of demyelination. You determine that the resting membrane potential is ?70 mV and that the threshold potential is ?55 mV. In addition, you determine that the membrane resistance is 50 ?cm and the internal resistance is 2.5 ?/cm. a. So you first decide to determine how far the next node of Ranvier can be to still allow for the generation of another action potential with a sustained depolarization of 25 mV in a normal neuron. Please explain your answer and (of course) show all work and units. b. How would demyelination affect that number? Please explain your answer. c. What about axon diameter?
