Question: Can someone help me with my art history assignment.

I choose an image from the movie Tangled. Examining closely the image I choose and compare it to any work of art from Janson's History of Art --- Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night, arguing for a similarity between the two images. The similarity that you focus on may refer to composition, color, line, form, or subject matter. Showing readers how these two works are similar through description, analysis, and example.

The purpose of this assignment is to practice looking closely at images and to see relationships among these images.

  • Choose an image from your daily life. It may be practically anything-for example, a poster, an advertisement, an illustration, a photograph, a cartoon.
  • Examine closely this image and compare it to any work of art in Janson's History of Art, arguing for a similarity between the two images. The similarity that you focus on may refer to composition, color, line, form, or subject matter.
  • Show the reader how the works are similar through description, analysis, and example. Your aim is to provide a nuanced representation of this relationship of similarity; to do this, you must establish as thoroughly and as vividly as possible the characteristics as well as the boundaries of this similarity. (Example: "Although the composition of my picture is much more crowded than the example from Janson, both compositions move the eye from left to right, as though one were reading a line of text." This statement shows the limits of the similarity while emphasizing-and elaborating on-the characteristics that the two compositions share. Your next sentence might explain more explicitly how the compositions draw the eye across the images, using specifics from the images themselves.)

In addition to looking and comparing, another goal of this assignment is to practice effective writing. If you want to show the reader a relationship between the two images, what might be the best way to do it? Consider the smallest elements of your writing, such as your choice of words and use of punctuation; consider also the larger elements of your composition, such as how you structure and introduce your ideas to the reader. How can you best guide the reader through your ideas?

Format:

  • Write a maximum of one page (double-spaced, with 1" margins, 12-point font)
  • Include a title, your name (this may be omitted from the copy submitted to tutorial), and your student number.
  • Append (on the back or on the following page) reproductions of your chosen image and the work of art from Janson. Label both images with basic identifying information as available (artist/creator if known, title or subject, date, source).
