Aim of assessment
The aim of this assessment is to assess students' understanding of the how to conduct a literature search and to evaluate research evidence by using appropriate evaluation criteria.
Assessment details
Read through the following information to understand and meet the requirements of this assessment.
Step 1: Literature search. In a database, conduct a literature search on a topic from a list provided in vUWS under Assessment 2 in the Assessment zone.
Key information. For help with performing a literature search revisit Module 2.
Step 2: Screenshot. Take a screenshot of the of the search you have conducted and save it. The screenshot must have your name that identifies it as your own search.
Step 3: Address the question. From the results of your search, choose an article and use this to respond to the following question:
-Discuss two (2) strategies to limit the number of irrelevant articles retrieved in a search.
Step 4: Evaluate evidence. Evaluate the quality of an article by using the recommended evaluation criteria. A list
of articles to choose from will be provided in vUWS under Assessment 2 in the Assessment zone.
Step 5: Write the report. Use the template that will be provided in vUWS.
Structure of report
- Introduction. Your introduction should include the significance of literature search and evaluation of research
evidence. Include a brief preview of the key areas to be discussed in your report.
- Body. The body of your report should contain a short discussion to answer each of the two (2) questions below:
1. Discuss two (2) strategies to limit the number of irrelevant articles retrieved in a search.
2. Evaluate the quality of an article by using the recommended evaluation criteria.
- Conclusion. Your conclusion should briefly summarise the key findings in your report.
- Reference list. Reference list is not included in the word count.
- Appendix. Attach a copy of your screenshot into your report.
