Assignment: Smart Future of Participation Annotated Bibliography

Purpose: Purpose of an annotation is to summarize and evaluate. It should briefly communicate the work's main point, but also discuss the background of the author or study, and the strengths/weaknesses of the work.

Task: Your task is to review 5 articles for your research essay.

Three articles must be scholarly articles related to your research problem/issue.

Two can be from .gov, .edu, .org.

The review of each article must be thoughtfully organized. Your review must attempt to maintain objectivity and present various perspectives, avoiding personal bias, and maintaining a third person voice. You must not insert your point of view but only present what experts say about your topic. DO NOT USE "I" WRITE IN THIRD PERSON. You can analyze and interpret the data and what it might suggest, but you have to write in third person.

What to include for each article: (100-150 words)

I. Citation

Be sure to use MLA 9th Ed.

II. Summary

Provide a short summary of the article's findings that are relevant to your research problem.

III. Evaluation

1. Evaluate the effectiveness and credibility of your source.

2. There needs to be a mention of the authors' background. Who are they? What are their credentials?

IV. Response

1. Consider: HOW does this article help you answer your (problem) question? Did you learn anything? Did the authors discover something new about the topic? Did they provide data or statistics?

2. Jot down any significant information that can be quoted and used as evidence.
