Consider a situation in which a natural disaster (like a hurricane) threatens to strike a costal region of the US. In preparation, many people go out to buy plywood to protect their homes and businesses. Often this sudden increase in demand leads to prices rising dramatically as the market adjusts to a situation where additional supplies cannot be accessed in the short time available. Evaluate the actions of people in this market from the perspective of any two of the "Christian Themes" discussed in this class. For example, how would a focus on "Justice" lead to different actions in this situation from a focus on "Freedom?" Explain and support your perspective for each of the two cases. (Note that you are not asked to decide between the two themes.)
The discussions will cover the application of Christian principles to business and policy decisions in Economics. The student will need to prepare to respond to the integrative prompt (available in Canvas) and fruitfully contribute to the discussion. The responses should be well considered, germane to the prompt, and supported by authoritative supplemental sources. Personal opinions are insufficient for these discussions. Responses must be focused on the ideas presented by other course participants and delivered in a considerate and respectful manner.
