How self-aware do you think you are? After working through the first four modules, do you understood more about your ‘self'? The purpose of this assessment is to help you achieve the intended unit learning outcomes ULO1-4 by:
applying concepts, theories, and frameworks introduced in Modules 1-4 to better understand your self
evaluating the relevance of your learning in the intrapersonal skill modules to your discipline and professional goals
practicing the communication of your ideas to a known audience in a rehearsed setting
acquiring important skills in academic writing and learning how to cite intellectual resources by applying the APA7 referencing style
By engaging in this assessment, you will develop and apply academic skills to research, evaluate, apply, and communicate concepts and frameworks related to intrapersonal skills in an authentic and discipline-relevant context. Throughout the assessment tasks, you will reflect on the role and importance of self-awareness (Module 1), learning styles (Module 2), intelligence (Module 3), and self-management (Module 4), in personal and professional decision-making, and identify strategies to enhance those skills.
Specific Requirements
In this assessment task, you are required to write an essay that demonstrates your understanding about self-awareness and various aspects of your own ‘self', and write a short reflective piece in essay format using what you have learned from one of the four modules (Modules 1-4).
Part A: Essay (maximum 700 words; 20%)
The first step in writing your essay is to complete the ITP Metrics Personality Assessment. You will receive a unique link from the unit chair by the end of Week 3 of the trimester. Upon completion of the personality assessment, you will be emailed a PDF copy of your personality report.
Upload a copy of the report to the Assessment 1 drop box.
Upload your essay to the Assessment 1 drop box. Your 700-word essay should integrate at least 5 academic references from credible sources (journal articles and academic books). It should also include the following elements:
Discuss your understanding of the concept ‘self-awareness'.
Critically reflect on and analyse your self-awareness by focusing on ONE of the following components to support your discussion.
Personality
Learning style
Critical thinking skill
Intelligence: Emotional and/or multiple intelligence
Self-management skill
Your analyses should be supported by a theory you have learned from Modules 1 to 4 and at least 1 personal example. Personal examples refer to any event that has happened in the past, a characteristic about you, or feedback you received previously from other people. In conducting your analysis and applying the theory you have chosen, explain your understanding of how the theory is both useful and insufficient in understanding yourself. You should make use of the ITS Metrics Personality Assessment report results to facilitate your discussion.
Ensure that you have included at least 5 references from credible, peer-reviewed sources (e.g., text on the unit reading list, articles from your independent research, practitioner-oriented articles, book chapters). You should format your in-text citations and Reference List based on the APA7 style.
Part B: Self-Reflective Essay (maximum 300 words)
Choose one module from Modules 1 to 4 as the basis for writing a reflection. Your reflection should address the three points below.
What is one new concept, theory, or example you learned from this module that challenges your existing understanding of yourself or the way you see the world?
After learning about the personal skill in this week's module, what do you appreciate about yourself?
Propose one short, medium, or long-term strategy you plan to adopt to further develop the positive aspect you identified in point (2) above. Then, identify one specific action you can take to implement the strategy - for example, when, for how long, where, with whom, and what exactly do you need to do to implement the strategy, to track your progress, to keep up your perseverance, and to know when you need to refine your strategy?
