It is important to note that this portfolio is about you and your choices, aspirations and goals. You should give specific, personal detail, describing the path you intend to take (in other words, be reflective about planning for your future).
Task A: Graduate careers, professional skills, and you (1000 words)
In this task, you will research and reflect on a potential future career that your degree programme could open up for you. You will explain your interest behind your choice of degree programme and career. You will explore the key professional skills that you will need to acquire during your degree, and into your first graduate job.
This task is a reflective piece of writing. You are required to respond to the four areas below.
Career Research
Using the prospects.ac.uk website, research and describe in your own words a graduate- level career pathway that is of interest to you. Explain what the career pathway involves, including roles and responsibilities, and how your chosen industry promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace. You should include references to some of the concepts and theories found in iLearn lessons 5 and 7.
Career Motivation
Explain your interest in this career. What attracts you to this role? Discuss the potential long- term implications of your career choice on your life. For example, is there job stability?
What would be your work-life balance? What opportunities are there for personal and professional growth? You should include references to some of the concepts and theories found in iLearn lesson 3 in your answer.
Degree Choice

You should review iLearn lesson 2 when writing this section. You should also comment on the services available at Arden that can support you e.g., Arden Futures, Arden Academic Skills Team, etc.
Professional and Digital Skills
Graduate-level jobs require a wide range of professional and digital skills. Discuss what your research suggests are the two most important professional skills, and the most important digital skill that you would use in the role you have discussed in this task.
In Task 2, you will be required to evaluate the same three skills.
Task B: GROW action plan - maximising your potential (1000 words)
In the previous task, you identified two key professional and one digital skill that would be needed in your graduate role. In this task, you will evaluate your current aptitude in these professional/digital skills, identifying your current strengths and weaknesses. You will then use the GROW goal setting method to plan your next steps to develop this skill further.
In your GROW action plan, you should make reference to the wide range of resources that that you have been introduced to throughout this module (e.g., Arden Futures, Arden Academic Skills Team, etc) that can help you succeed in your future career.
GROW stands for: Goal (define what you want to achieve), Reality (assess the current situation), Options (explore different ways to achieve the goal), Will (commit to specific actions)
You may structure your answer to this task by replicating the table below (the template document is available on iLearn under the My Assessment tab).
