The purpose of this assignment is to (a) develop and deepen your knowledge of International Relations theories; and (b) develop your ability to critically contrast, assess and evaluate the different theoretical claims made by distinct approaches to International Relations

You are required to answer one (1) of the following questions:

1) Critically analyse,compare and evaluate how Neo-realist and Neoliberal institutionalist IR theoriesunderstand international cooperation.

2) ‘State action is driven first and foremost by material self-interest.' Critically analyse,compare and evaluate how Constructivism and eitherpost-1945 Realist or Liberal IR theories would respond to this statement, considering the different logics of action that underpin each theory.

3) Critically analyse,compare and evaluate Marxist andeither Liberal or Realist explanations of why wars happen in international politics

4) ‘There is no global citizenship; our ethical duties should focus upon and prioritize improving the well-being of our fellow national citizens.' Discuss this statement, critically analysing, comparing and evaluating cosmopolitan and communitarian approaches to ethics in international politics.

5) Is foreign policy ultimately the pursuit of domestic class interests on the international stage? In your answer critically analyse, compare and evaluate Marxist theories of international relations to Poststructuralist explanations of foreign policy.
