How fast does salt fall down to the bottom of a soup bowl? Estimate falling speed, the salt has a diameter of 1 mm, and does not have time to dissolve on its way down. Density of solid salt is 2100 kg/m3. The soup is about 70oC, and has a viscosity that does not differ much from that of water, equal to 0.404 x 10-3kg/(m.s) and a density of 985 kg/m3.

a. Estimate the settling speed of a grain of salt.

b. How long does it take for the salt to reach the bottom of the bowl if the depth of soup is 10 cm.
