Estimate the kinetic energy of the Mars with respect to the Sun as the sum of the terms, that due to its daily rotation about its axis, and that due to its yearly revolution about the Sun. [Assume the Mars is a uniform sphere with mass = 6.4×1023kg , radius = 3.4×106m , rotation period 24.7h , orbital period 686d and is 2.3×108km from the Sun.]

The solution is about the calculation of the kinetic energy of Mars. KE of Mars calculated from the calculation of the rotational KE and KE due to revolution about the earth. The total sum is expressed in joules. Moment of inertia, angular velocity and velocity of the planet are calculated from the physical parameters and other observations of the planet.
