A swimmer who is able to swim a speed of 1.4m/s in still water, starts to swim Southward directly across a 2.8km wide river. The river, however, has a current with a velocity of 0.91m/s Westward and carries the swimmer downstream.

A) Write the vector sum for the velocity of the swimmer relative to the shore.

B) Make a diagram of the vector sum.

C) How long does it take the swimmer to cross the river?

D) How far downstream will the swimmer be upon reaching the other side of the river?
