You receive a phone call from an established patient requesting an appointment. Unfortunately, the office policy states that patients with a delinquent balance must pay their bill in full before an appointment may be scheduled. This patient has a past due amount from a previous visit. The patient acknowledges the balance due but said he has an unusual circumstance that prevents him from being able to pay his bill at this time. How can you remain empathetic to this patient AND follow the office policy?
