Unit 06 Managing a Successful Computing Project - BTEC HND in Computing
ASSIGNMENT
Aim & Objective
This coursework is designed to demonstrate the broad understanding and knowledge of the module, assessing and evaluating the student's strength and level of analysis; divided into four learning outcomes. The coursework should be submitted as one document in a report format.
Assignment Scenario:
The Pearson-set theme for use for managing successful computing project is "Remote Working" as per the "Pearson-set Theme and Topic Release 1stSeptember 2021 to 31stAugust 2022"
Remote Working:
The option to work remotely was already being embraced by some businesses in the pre- pandemic era. These businesses were making some progress to adapt their working practices to accommodate remote working by allowing those in certain job roles to take the opportunity to work from home, albeit a day or two a week. However, on the whole there had been a reluctance to have staff working remotely and this has largely centred around productivity concerns, security implications and technology issues.
The global pandemic however necessitated and accelerated the move to remote working. The vast majority of businesses have now shifted some or all of their operations online, and almost all of their staff are working from home. The enabling force behind this necessary shift has been the different technologies and platforms that facilitate workers to achieve business goals remotely.
This sudden shift to remote working took place within weeks and months and has not been without issues. Several surveys conducted during this period cited business leaders complaining about how technology problems have impacted their business and employees while working remotely.
As an IT researcher, you are assigned a project to research on how organisations can find about, recognise and improve their employee's remote working productivity.
This research project tries to investigate what the different ways that organisations can gauge workers' productive are at home - beyond preventing technology problems.
Employees, too, increasingly want their bosses to know how they're performing remotely to ease bosses' minds that they're using their "unseen time" wisely, or because they feel frustrated about not being recognised for the work they do at home. Therefore, this research needs to consider both employer's and employee's perspective.
The outcome of your research project is expected to be a report to establish a solid understanding of the factors that affect remote working productivity, the mechanisms to measure it, and suggestions to improve it.
To conduct this research project, you need follow four stages and conduct the following tasks:
1. Develop a proper project plan for your research project. The project plan should define and explain the research aim and objectives; identify the activities that you are going to do in your research (including their sub-activities and details - i.e. work- breakdown-structure); the sequence and time estimation of the activities and the main milestones (i.e. time plan/Gantt Chart); the required resources for each activity and their costs (i.e. resource and cost pans); and your plans to manage the quality, risk and communication of your research.
2. Define a clear research method, including source(s) of data (e.g. literature, secondary data, industry experts, or consumers); type of data (qualitative and/or quantitative); data collection method (e.g. literature survey, interview, and survey); data analysis method (e.g. descriptive presentation, thematic analysis, or statistical methods); and research validity and reliability.
3. Analyse and present the collected data (quantitative and/or qualitative as well as literature review), with appropriate tools and in a proper format, and discuss the results in detail. Accordingly, you need to provide your recommendations on remote working productivity measurement and improvement, and draw valid and meaningful conclusions.
4. Provide a proper reflection on (a) the value of the research to meet your project objectives (b) your own learning in this research project, and (c) the value and contribution of the project planning/management in conducting the research and achieving its objectives.
Notes:
- The main activities of your research (e.g. literature review, data collection and data analysis) should be identified in the project plan (stage 1 above), details of the research method should be explained in the research method (stage 2 above), the outcomes of the research and its relevant analyses should be presented in stage 3 above), and a proper reflection on the research outcomes as well as the value of research and project planning (to manage the research project) should be presented in stage 4. Critical evaluation of (a) the project management process, (b) research methods, (c) the project outcomes, and (d) the adjustment made to the initial project plan to conduct the research better; is needed to enhance the quality of your assignment.
- Your finding maybe evaluated and compared with existing reports published, synthesised with data gathered in producing a comprehensive conclusion and recommendation. Quality, Authenticity, Accuracy and Reliability of information sources used in the report is paramount and hence you should take all precaution in using outside sources especially that of statistical nature and/or open source data. Wholesale use of text and diagrams from websites considered plagiarism.
- The project logbook is designed to provide evidence of the project development process and ongoing reflection. It should provide evidence of thought, direction of project and in particular, what problems encountered and steps taken to address them.
- The performance review will provide evidence of reflection and evaluation of the project management process and individual performance.
Project Plan, including project title, an overview of the research problem, scope, aim(s)/objectives, and project time, resource, cost, quality, communication, and risk plans.
Every project is unique yet all project should adhere the three constraints (scope, time, and cost), and to meet these three requirements the project management should as well include work breakdown structure and Gantt chart that should include milestones providing timeframes and stages for completion.
The project requirement may include a number of different documents, some of which are so essential that project deemed to be a failure without following a robust project management plan that covers aspects of cost, scope, time, quality, communication, risk and resources.
Research Methods
There are many methods that can be used to enquire and collect data, which in turns may be influenced by the underpinning methodology thus broadly studied and discussed as (qualitative, quantitative). You are to establish and evaluate the most suitable methodology/method for which data acquisition is conducted and analysed with critical evaluation of the project management process and appropriate research methodologies applied.
Findings: analysis, discussion, and recommendations
Raw data collected cannot by itself express reality and/or establish knowledge, the data is required to be analysed and evaluated. This analysis should then be used to form the basis to draw conclusions. For this research on "Remote Working", literature can be a good source of knowledge, and the outcomes of your literature review should be shared in this section (before analysing other primary and/or secondary data).
Further analysis of data (primary and/or secondary) should provide a wider view of the
"Remote Working" implications and their possible impacts.
The final part of the research is the conclusions and recommendation, this naturally flows and is established from the above discussions of secondary and primary research conducted and analysed. Evaluate the selected techniques and tools for rightness and validity to support and justify recommendations made.
Reflection
One of the unique characteristics of human beings is the ability to apprehend reality through a process of analysis and synthesis of observable phenomena. As a researcher you should critically evaluate and reflect on the success of the project, the decision-making process and its usefulness in supporting organisational performance, and hence the impact of your own performance and justification of recommendations and learnings in this project.
Note: Please devise a section in your report as appendices and attach all the documents as a separate file(s). Without appropriate evidence(s) your assignment will not be marked.

You are required to identify the purpose and types of Domain Name System (DNS) and also explain how domain names are organised and managed. Web hosting involves software and hardware technologies associated with hosting and managing websites. A number of these technologies are in use in real-world applications. You are required to explain the relationship between domain names, DNS services, and communication protocols used to access a website. Also, include web server hardware, software, and operating systems in your explanation with regards to designing, publishing, and accessing a website. You should also evaluate the impact of different web development technologies and frameworks on website design functionality and management. You are expected to review the influence of search engines on website performance and provide evidence-based support for improving a site's index value and rank through search engine optimisation.
LO2 Categorise website technologies, tools, and software used to develop websites
You are required to discuss the capabilities and relationships between front-end and back-end technologies, and explain how they are related to the presentation layer, client-side and server-side programming to build a User Interface (UI) for effective User Experience (UX). You should discuss the difference between a custom-built website and online website creation using a built-in system by hosting provider; possible advantages, limitations with regards to design flexibility, performance, functionality, User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI). You would also evaluate various tools and techniques that are available and being used to develop a custom-built website. Finally, justify the tools and techniques chosen to realise a custom-built website.
LO3 Utilise website technologies, tools, and techniques with good design principles to create a multipage website.
You are required to research and create good content combined with good design principles to develop a multipage website based on the above scenario. Identify all the requirements for developing the website and create a design document for a branded, multipage website supported with medium-fidelity wireframes and a full set of client and user requirements. Use your design document with appropriate principles, standards, and guidelines to produce a branded, multipage website supported with realistic content. You should also compare and contrast the multipage website created to the design document. Then, critically evaluate the design and development process against your design document and analyse any technical challenges.

LO4 Create and use a Test Plan to review the performance and design of a multipage website.
After  developing the websites, you are required to create a suitable Test Plan  identifying key performance areas and use it to review the  functionality and performance of your website. E.g. you could consider  the following;
• Review how intuitive interfaces and actions, user-friendly designs, appropriate graphics, effective navigation, and good quality content can help establish user trust and deliver an improved User Experience (UX).
• Consider the effects of good and bad search engine optimization (SEO) and indexing on the performance of a website.
• W3C Validation (HTML and CSS) and how it influences website design and performance.
• Assess the impact of poorly optimized website graphics.
Then, you should evaluate the Quality Assurance (QA) process and review how it was implemented during your design and development stages. In the end, you are expected to critically evaluate the results of your Test Plan and include a review of the overall success of your multipage website; use this evaluation to explain any areas of success and provide justified recommendations for areas that require improvement.

You are strongly advised to read "Preparation guidelines of the Coursework Document" before answering your assignment.
ASSIGNMENT
Aim & Objective
This assignment is designed so that it enables the student to demonstrate their understanding of the mathematical concepts covered in the module through answering various practical problems; divided into four parts. The coursework should be submitted as one document in a report format in final submission.
Part 1
Number theory
The GCD (greatest common divisor), LCM (lowest common multiple) and prime numbers is used for a variety of applications in number theory, particularly in modular arithmetic and thus encryption algorithms such as RSA. It is also used for simpler applications, such as simplifying fractions. This makes the GCD, LCM and prime numbers a rather fundamental concept to number theory, and as such several algorithms have been discovered to efficiently compute it. Primes are the set of all numbers that can only be equally divided by 1 and themselves, with no other even division possible. Numbers like 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11 are all prime numbers.
Demonstrate the concepts of greatest common divisor and least common multiple of a given pair of numbers with an example. To support the evidence of your understanding on LCM and GCD, you should present with pseudocode and a computer program in python to compute LCM and GCD based on user's input. It is desirable, to support your findings by identifying multiplicative inverses in modular arithmetic with an example. Produce a detailed written explanation of the importance and application of prime numbers in RSA encryption (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman). To support the evidence of your understanding on the use of prime numbers, you are required to develop a computer program in C/ C++ or python to demonstrate the asymmetric cryptography algorithm.
Sequences and Series
Arithmetic progressions are used in simulation engineering and in the reproductive cycle of bacteria. Some uses of APs in daily life include uniform increase in the speed at regular intervals, completing patterns of objects, calculating simple interest, speed of an aircraft, increase or decrease in the costs of goods, sales and production and so on. Geometric progressions (GP's) are used in compound interest and the range of speeds on a drilling machine. In fact, GPs are used throughout mathematics, and they have many important applications in physics, engineering, biology, economics, computer science, queuing theory and finance.
To support the evidence of your understanding on AP and GP, solve the following 4 problems.
1.	The 5th term of an AP is 17/6 and the 9th term is 25/6. What is the 12th term?
2.	An Arithmetic Progression has 23 terms, the sum of the middle three terms of this arithmetic progression is 720, and the sum of the last three terms of this Arithmetic Progression is 1320. What is the 18th term of this Arithmetic Progression?

3.	We have three numbers in an arithmetic progression, and another three numbers in a geometric progression. Adding the corresponding terms of the two series, we get 120,116,130. If the sum of all the terms in the geometric progression is 342, what is the largest term in the geometric progression?
4. There is a set of four numbers p, q, r and s respectively in such a manner that first three are in G.P. and the last three are in A.P. with a difference of 6. If the first and the fourth numbers are the same, find the value of p.
5.	The sum of three numbers in a GP is 26 and their product is 216. Find the numbers.
Part 2
Probability theory and probability distributions
The probability of something to happen is the likelihood or a chance of it happening. Values of probability lie between 0 and 1, where 0 represents an absolute impossibility and 1 represent an absolute certainty. The probability of an event happening usually lies somewhere between these two extreme values and it is expressed either as a proper a decimal fraction.
2.1 To support the evidence of your understanding on probability theory and probability distributions, solve the following problems.
a.	What is the probability of getting a sum of 7 when two dice are thrown?
b.	A coin is thrown 3 times. what is the probability that at least two head is obtained?
c.	From a pack of cards, two cards are drawn at random. Find the probability that each card is numbered and from same suite.
d.	A bag contains 10 white, 5 red and 9 blue balls. Four balls are drawn at random from the bag. What is the probability that?
i)	all of them are red.
ii)	two is white and the rest two is blue.
e.	Find the probability distribution of boys and girls in families with 7 children, assuming equal probabilities for boys and girls. Draw the graph of your probability distribution.
f.	The time taken to assemble a car in a certain plant is a random variable having a normal distribution of 20 hours and a standard deviation of 2 hours. What is the probability that a car can be assembled at this plant in a period?
a)	less than 19 hours?
b)	between 19 and 21 hours?
g.	The annual salaries of employees in a large company are approximately normally distributed with a mean of £45,000 and a standard deviation of £25,000.
a)	What percent of people earn less than £35,000?
b)	What percent of people earn between £36,000 and £38,000?
c)	What percent of people earn more than £40,000?
It is also desirable to support your findings by producing a brief evaluation report on the use of probability theory in hashing and load balancing.

Part 3
Forces, velocities, and various other quantities are vectors functions find their applications in engineering, physics, fluid flow, electrostatics, computational maths and so on. The engineer must understand these fields as the basis of the design and construction of systems, such as airplanes, laser generators, thermodynamically system, or robots. In three dimensions, geometrical ideas become influential, enriching the theory. Thus, many geometrical quantities can be given by vectors.
To support the evidence of your understanding on geometry and vectors, solve the following problems
