A chain restaurant in Florida is where this scenario takes place and you gathered your data. This restaurant chain wants to make sure that the people they hire will be steady and reliable employees. You begin gathering data for the past 12 months between January 2010 and December 2010. On January 1, 2010 you found 200 people who met your employee experience criteria (180 Hispanics and 20 Asian Islanders), of whom 10 had lupus; 170 (160 Hispanics and 10 Asian Islanders) traveled to California during the next 12 months.

During the year 15 healthy people came to Florida, none of these had traveled to California after moving there.

A total of 8 workers (7 Hispanics and 1 Asian Islander) developed ‘sunflu’*. 42 workers were diagnosed with lupus (2 of these 42 workers had both lupus and ‘sunflu’). 28 other ’sunflu’-free and lupus free employees experienced one or more other diseases.

8 employees died of whom 6 had traveled to California. Four of those who died (3 Hispanics, 1 Asian Islander) had ‘sunflu’ and four had other diseases; 3 of the 8 also had lupus.

Thirty employees moved away from Florida during the year and 20 of these had traveled to California at some time during their time living in Florida. Two of these movers had ‘sunflu’ when they left and 14 had lupus.
