ENS2260 Surveying and Site Measurement Assignment - Edith Cowan University, Australia
1. Watch the following videos:
i. Mine Surveying - Opencut
ii. How to determine your property boundary for a new Fence and Retaining Wall
For each video, identify:
a. the stage at which the surveying activity is being carried out.
b. the type of surveying activity and the method of surveying used.
c. the importance of this type of surveying at this stage of the project based on your knowledge and the information provided.
2. You work for a surveying company. One of your clients wants to build industrial properties on undeveloped land near;
1351 Wanneroo Road, Wanneroo, WA, 6065 (see Figure 1), and
10188 Joondalup Drive, Edgewater, WA (see Figure 2)
(NB: the area shown in Figure 1 and 2 is bounded my multiple lots, use the address above to locate the area on the map only.)
Prior to breaking ground, you have been tasked with determining survey marks that will be used for the rest of the project i.e. to locate with high accuracy, the positions of the structures to be constructed on the ground.
For each site:
a. identify any existing survey marks and show their location (including dimensions) from the property on a clearly annotated sketch.
b. describe the process that can be used to establish survey marks within each project site if the tolerance required is:
i. ± 1 mm
ii. ± 10 mm
Justify your answer using existing information e.g. existing survey marks, topography, slope, measurements etc. Clearly state any assumptions made.
c. Comment on the differences in setting out for a project with no existing survey marks versus a project with sufficient survey marks.
Visit Landgate to obtain more information e.g. existing survey marks, topography, slope, measurements etc.
3. In a surveying project, four survey marks SSM1 - SSM4 are identified as shown in Figure 3. However, the survey team discovers that SSM3 and SSM4 were destroyed in a previous project.
a. If the coordinates of SSM1 and SSM2 are (0.000, 0.000) and (1500.000, 0.000), respectively, use triangulation techniques to find the coordinates of the project points MDO1, MDO2, MDO3 and MDO4 and the destroyed survey marks SSM3, and SSM4 using the observed angles α and β provided in Table 1.
b. Indicate on Figure 3 the direction of the lines considered. Is adequate control provided in the project? Why or why not?
Note - All figures and required information are in attached file.
