Engaging Scripture Assessment
Assignment

a) Environment
b) Politics
c) Disability
d) Migration
Suggested structure
A: Introduction
Briefly introduce your topic including any particular angle you may be taking.
B: Key passages and themes
• Identify key passages, themes or metaphors that are relevant for your chosen topic and explain why they are significant (if there are a lot of passages, less significant ones could go in footnotes).
• Where appropriate, do some small scale exegesis to draw out the meaning of a passage.
• Do draw out differences and similarities between your contemporary context and that of the Scripture (e.g. early Christians were a powerless minority in the Roman Empire).
• Show the extent to which Scripture informs discussion of your contemporary topic.
• Engage with commentaries and other scholarly sources that address your topic in relation to Scripture.
• Ensure you include a range of biblical voices and scholars so as to offer a balanced engagement with Scripture.
C: Conclusion
Draw the threads of your argument so far together to say how you understand your topic after engaging with Scripture. Don't just summarise. Briefly comment on what action or revised practice this might require of you or your own church or the wider Christian church.
D: Bibliography. Include a bibliography as you would for any assignment. It should include commentaries consulted on key passages and any sources about your topic and scripture (e.g. books, journal articles). This is not included in the word count.
