Our constructs for the week are intriguing. As you shared, "Emotional regulation refers to the complex procedure of the modification of one's behavior to meet a given situation." In this capacity, one can readily recognize how emotional regulation is important for dealing with inevitable conflicts between cultures. Even within our country, you will encounter different cultures, even if it is just cultures based upon various socioeconomic classes or backgrounds in different regions of our country. We are all enculturated to certain emotion-regulation rules, which can serve to maintain cultural values (SUO, 2015). To what extent do you find that you use reappraisal and/or suppression to deal with emotional reactions to culture-related stressors? Would those methods of emotional regulation be consistent with American values? Why?
