Gamondi, C., Pott, M., & Payne, S. (2013). Families' experiences with patients who died after assisted suicide: a retrospective interview study in southern Switzerland. Annals of Oncology: Official Journal ofThe European Society For Medical Oncology / ESMO, 24(6), 1639-1644. doi:10.1093/annonc/mdt033

This article does a study on patients that went through assisted suicide and interview with the family. It goes into what the patient was feeling and how they came to the conclusion that they would like to hasten death. Most patients told family members that they would not want to be in a situation where they would lose their dignity. This article will be a wonderful addition to my paper because I can bring in knowledge from patients on why they preferred to hasten death. It will make an emotional connection with the audience and make it feel real.

Jankowski, J., & Campo-Engelstein, L. (2013).Suicide in the context of terminal illness. The American Journal of Bioethics: AJOB, 13(3), 13-14. doi:10.1080/15265161.2012.760680

The article shows a wonderful example of a patient that tried to end her life after trying everything to beat her cancer. It talks about how, in this case, it wasn't taken lightly, and it was unbearable for the patient. I will be using this article to show a case to prove that it would have been compassionate for the patient to be able to end her life on her terms. The article had some good quotes about assisted suicide that I will be able to use in my paper.

Noble, B. (2013). Legalizing assisted dying puts vulnerable patients at risk and doctors must speak up. BMJ (Clinical Research Ed.), 346f4062. doi:10.1136/bmj.f4062

This article talks about how if assisted suicide is legalized that it will become the new norm and that some patients might get the short end of the stick. It brings up the point that many elderly wishes for death only so they will not be a burden on the family. If assisted suicide is legalized it needs to be monitored by the government and looked at why they are applying for assisted help in dying. I think that this article will be a good source to bring in the other point of view on assisted suicide. It will bring more information to the reader about the downfalls of assisted suicide.

Wolf, S. M., Berlinger, N., & Jennings, B. (2015). Forty years of work on end-of-life care -- from patients' rights to systemic reform. The New England Journal of Medicine, 372(7), 678-682. Retrieved from https://search.proquest.com/docview/1654965697?accountid=35812

This is a wonderful article that touches on how times have changed in caring for patients and helping them with end-of-life care. It goes over the history of securing rights for patients that cannot help themselves. It talks about the lessons that have been learned over the past 40 years and how it has affected the patients. This will be a wonderful article to use in my paper to help bring in points that health care is changing for the better. There are many points in the article that I can connect with how it is compassionate to have assisted suicide as an option.

You do not have to the reference in the file but the references used at least have to be 4 peer-reviewed.

Part 1: Persuasive Research Paper

Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word persuasive research paper that argues your personal position on a controversial topic that you think is worthy of public debate. The topic must be current, part of an ongoing debate, or a relatively new, unknown topic that you think deserves more attention.

Include a strong thesis statement and be organized so that your arguments are clearly presented. Avoid giving background on your topic.

Instead focus on proving your thesis statement.

Incorporate both classical principles of argumentation and elements of the Toulmin model of argument analysis.

Support your claims with credible references, using a minimum of four peer-reviewed sources.

Note. If you write on a topic that is part of an ongoing debate, your argument must address all sides of the issue, and must represent and persuasively respond to positions different from your own. Remember that topics, such as abortion and the death penalty, are difficult to write about because of how polarizing they are. You may find it difficult to look at all sides of these kinds of debates, especially if you have strong feelings. Avoid these kinds of debates, and look for something fresh.

If you write on a relatively new or unknown topic, part of your task will be educating your readers on this topic and proving that it is worthy of serious public debate.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Part 2: Persuasive Paper Presentation

Create a 5- to 7-slide presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint to accompany your paper.

Format your references consistent with APA guidelines. Include citations in the speaker notes or in a separate reference list.
