ELCT20002 Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation - Middle East College

Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the nature, role, scope and contribution that entrepreneurs make in modern society.
Learning Outcome 2: Explain the sources and type of assistance, incentives, and procedures for starting business in the Sultanate of Oman.
Learning Outcome 3: Analyse key issues in setting-up and running a small business.

Assignment Objective

Understanding the structure and process of entrepreneurship is essential to attain a complete grasp of the phenomenon. The assignment is designed to allow the students to explore the structural aspects of entrepreneurship theoretically as well as in practice.

Task:
1 Literature Review on entrepreneurship (definitions and roles)
2 Literature Review on the entrepreneurial support systems available in Oman
3 Literature Review on key issues in setting-up and running a small business

The report should ideally have the following contents:

i. Cover page
ii. Table of Contents
iii. Executive Summary
iv. Introduction
v. Key Deliverables
vi. Summary
vii. References
viii. Appendices

Executive Summary

The student should clearly specify what the assignment is about; its rationale and the methods used.

Introduction

Hence, the student should introduce the different sections of the report in specific terms. (Max. 120 words)

Assignment body

Students should:

a. Define Entrepreneurship (Give three definitions and briefly explain them)(Max. 400 words)
b. Describe its roles (e.g., its economic and social contribution.(Max. 200 words)
c. SME Support Systems in Oman (The students should identify: i. two SME support systems in the Sultanate of Oman, ii. the kind of ventures they support; iii. The amount of finance/funding they provide; and iv. the qualifying criteria.)(Max. 350 words)
d. Briefly discuss the key issues in setting-up and running a small business (Briefly discuss five main issues)(Max. 150 words)

Report Summary

- Present a very brief account of the ‘body'/Briefly restate the information presented in the main text
