Element 1 Evaluate health hazards that may result from features of the workplace or working environment
PC 1.1: Evaluate workplace factors that may affect the health of workers.
PC 1.2: Determine health hazards that may result from work processes, work operations, equipment and work procedures.
PC 1.3: Consult Occupational Health and Safety specialists and other advisors
Element 2 Analyze the risks of worker exposure to potentially harmful agents and factors
PC 2.1: Evaluate existing controls and their effectiveness, taking account of relevant standards.
PC 2.2: Monitor worker exposure to harmful agents and work practices
PC 2.3 Utilise exposure standards in the assessment of risks.
PC 2.4: Report findings and recommendations to stakeholders according to organisational requirements
Assessment Tasks
Instructions:
Select an organisation, in any location in any type of industry, office work or workplace. For example: a local family business such as a dry cleaning business, a restaurant, a sports club or gym, a car workshop, a woman's retail shop, a watch repair service, ADNOC service station etc.
Task-1
Conduct an analysis in the area selected and evaluate factors in the work place which may affect the workers' health.
Task-2
Once you have identified the three factors affecting the workers' health, now examine what type of health hazards which may occur from the work process, work equipment and procedures. You must identify 6 hazards in total (2 hazards from each of the 3 factors).
Task-3
Depending on the factors identified in the work place, decide what type of specialist or consultant needs to be involved and decide how you would consult the specialist.
Task-4
Whatever factors you have identified earlier in the selected area, examine the existing control measures and the standards used in that organization (specify any international or OSHAD standards).
Task 5
Using the standards identified in task 4, monitor and decide the exposure limit of the factors which may be considered harmful and complete a risk analysis.
Task- 6
Finally draft a report on the findings and your recommendation to stakeholders and top management for their perusal. This report can be a written report or a power point presentation.
