When thinking about how an egoist would view racism in policing, we must remember that ethical egoism is when a person should do what is in their best interests. It endorses selfishness, but it doesn't endorse foolishness (Rachel's, 2003). For example, imagine a white person with an egoist point of view viewing the Rodney King beating. The beating of Mr. King was a clear sign of racism in policing, and in response, the Black community took it upon themselves to protest that injustice. A white person with an egoist point of view would probably be against getting involved in the protest because they wouldn't want to get caught up in the middle of everything and risk getting hurt. They would probably also ask themselves, "what do I have to gain from this?" There would have to be something in it for them in order to get involved. A white person with an egoist point of view's primary concern might be themselves, so it would be in their best interest to save themselves.
