According to our book, (chapter 5, section 5.1) the listening process happens in five steps but they are not always in order. In other words, they don't have to happen one after the other. As two people communicate the steps of the process can happen at the same time.However, we can identify certain components: receiving, interpreting, recalling, evaluating, and responding.

Describe a real or imagined brief conversation between two people. Label in parenthesis where each of the steps is happening within this conversation. Write at least 100 words.

There are different types of listening styles based on people's personalities, past experiences, culture, etc. Refer to chapter 5, section 5.1 and answer the following questions:

Which style of listening best describes you and why? Which style do you have the most difficulty with or like the least and why? Write at least 50 words.

Bad listening practices can get in the way of effective listening in interpersonal communication (chapter 5, section 5.2).

Of the bad listening practices listed in this section, which two do you use the most? Why do you think you use them more than the others? What can you do to help prevent or lessen these practices? Please use different examples than the book and write at least 100 words.

Effective listening skills can be learned. But as you have read, there are different listening context and different reasons to listen.

Look at section 5.3 of chapter 5. Explain whether you would rather become a better critical listener or a better empathetic listener and why. Choose one or two of the strategies suggested to improve the listening skill you chose and explain why you were drawn to it and how you can implement them in your own life. Please write at least 100 words.
