Use of Generative AI tools
You are allowed to use Generative AI tools like Microsoft CoPilot or ChatGPT to assist you in completing this assessment. The marking rubric has been updated to reflect this. If you choose to use ChatGPT or any other AI tool, you must adhere to the following:
At the start or end of your article, acknowledge the contribution of the tool. For example, you can include a statement such as "This article was written with the assistance of ChatGPT, an AI language model trained by OpenAI."
In your Reflection, describe how you used ChatGPT or other AI tools in the assessment and how it helped you to meet the requirements of the task. Include screenshots documenting your chat with ChatGPT or other AI tools.
Caution is advised when using AI tools such as ChatGPT. While we encourage you to explore these tools as part of this course, these tools are not infallible and may sometimes provide inaccurate or irrelevant information. You will need to have a sound understanding of the course concepts and the assessment requirements in order to use genAI tools effectively. You will need to evaluate the information provided by genAI tools and critically assess its relevance to your assignment. Relying solely on genAI tools may result in ineffective work and ultimately lead to poor performance in this course. Use genAI tools and other AI tools judiciously and in combination with your own knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities. If you have any questions or concerns about using genAI tools, please feel free to reach out to the teaching team for clarification, via the Course Forum or course inbox.
[Please note that genAI tools may not be permitted in your other courses. In those courses, use of genAI tools may be considered a breach of Academic Integrity. Refer to your course materials or contact your course staff for information.]
How to complete this assessment
Read through all the information and resources on this page.
Begin your initial research and planning. You already know the document's author, target audience and purpose... But how much do you know about Fact Sheets? Spend some time researching this genre. Google is your friend here, as are our Week 4 activities. You may want to look at fact sheet writing guides, tips, examples and templates, as well as other content published by the Department of Health.
Review your work and feedback from Assessment 1.1 (available via the A1.1 submission point ). Which points from your analysis and feedback can you draw on in this assessment? Which content from the original document will you keep, edit, or remove?
Produce your Fact Sheet.
Note: You must keep the message of the original document in tact. The purpose of the repackage is to effectively communicate the document's message to a wide audience. Draw on your work and feedback from Assessment 1.1, your understanding of the Fact Sheet genre, the knowledge you've gained over the first four weeks of this course (including concepts including the 'big 3'), and any other ideas for improvement that you can think of. Your repackage should be appropriate for the Fact Sheet genre, and for the document's audience, purpose and context (which are the same as they were in A1.1).
Your boss has provided a Word document of the original document, so that you can edit or copy+paste as necessary (see below). You can edit the text as much (or as little) as necessary, as long as the original message is clearly delivered. You can also make updates to the document's content, as you deem necessary.
Note: While university assessments usually require you to create original work, the aim of this assessment is to improve an existing document and move it into a new format. Your TurnItIn report for this assignment may thus be much higher than usual, but this is okay, as long as the updates that you make and your written justification are your own work.
Your Fact Sheet can be A4 or A5 size, single or double-sided. There is no word count requirement for the fact sheet.
Marks for this part of the assessment will be based on your:
Content (35%): Appropriate content, demonstrating an ability to increase audience response while maintaining the integrity of the original document.
Content considers whether the written and visual content is appropriate for the genre, audience and topic, and whether the integrity of original document has been maintained. Is the information clear and logical? Is the information structured logically and appropriately? Is the language and tone appropriate for the target audience, topic, and considering the author? Is the amount of text and detail appropriate for the genre and audience? Do visual elements help to convey information? Is the original document's message effectively conveyed?
Layout (35%): Effective and applied use of design and usability principles.
Layout considers whether your designs are appropriate for the genre, audience and topic, whether design and usability principles have been used effectively, and the aesthetic appeal of the document. Focus on the basics here. Does it look like a fact sheet? That is, does it use the standard elements of the genre, such as headings, lists, tables, informative graphics, colour, etc.? Is the document easy to navigate and laid out logically? Are elements placed where the user would expect, and are they appropriately sized? Is the design clean, clear, and consistent? Are image, colour and type choices relevant and appropriate considering the author, audience, and topic?
Document your key decisions in a 450-word justification. Justify your decisions and the changes you made when repackaging/updating the document. Your justifications should consider the document's audience, purpose, and context (including the document's topic, genre, and author). Your decisions should be supported by research and evidence.
The word count is 450 words, with a 10% leeway. In-text referencing counts towards this word count. Your reference list does not count towards this word count.
Headings and dot points can be used.
Marks for this part of the assessment will be based on:
Written justification (20%): Demonstrated understanding of designing for audience, purpose and context.
Research and referencing (10%): Effective integration of appropriate resources and accurate formatting using APA 7 Referencing style. Use a minimum of 3 course readings.
Submit your work as a (single, merged) PDF file to the submission portal below. Free software is available to help you save files as PDFs (e.g. CutePDF Writer), and free online tools can help you merge multiple documents into one PDF (e.g. smallpdf.com).
Referencing
Use relevant course resources and in-text referencing to support your claims. Use a minimum of 3 course readings, plus any other reputable resources. (Hint: draw on theories such as the 'big 3'.) Reference using APA 7 style. Work closely with the APA 7 referencing guide to ensure your references are formatted correctly.
