Just imagine the Impact of politics on schools, the leader's role in educational policies, and current policy environment. Based on readings and course content, identify one experience where, as an educational leader, the politics of a school board, superintendent, or other personnel, negatively impacted school change or programs.
Scenarios
You are on a campaign to transform education in your school. You notice the following:
Students lack engagement in many classroom activities. In general, teachers lack energy and enthusiasm.
Assessments are far and few between and may not be standards-based. The union is complaining because of the turnover of teachers and unfair labor practices teachers endure due to the lack of substitute teachers. You have a donor willing to give you a substantial amount of money if in the plan.
You can change the trajectory of the students and teachers. The donor wants a comprehensive plan in which the accountability of all school members is included.
Do you accept the challenge?
Where do you start?
Who becomes your key players?
What assets do you use to accomplish the challenge?
What political challenges do you have?
What about other donors' needs and wants?
How do you compensate consultants if you choose to use them?
