Edgework and other forms of risky behavior are indicative of this part of the lifespan. Edgework is risky or radical behavior that emerging adults engage in during leisure activities. However, risky behavior can be seen on a variety of levels during this part of the life span. For instance, there are some inherent risks in venturing out on your own and no longer living with your parents. From Edgework, like what you saw in the videos, to everyday decisions, emerging adults are no strangers to risk.

1. Thinking about what we've learned this week about emerging adulthood in terms of physical development and cognitive development, why do you think these types of extreme risk-taking activities (like what you saw in the two videos) are associated with this part of the life span?

2. Many who engage in these types of extreme activities tend to stop those activities as they enter into their late 20's and early 30's. Speculate and discuss why you think this shift takes place for most of these adrenaline seekers.

3. If you are willing to share, describe an incident during emerging adulthood where you or a friend took a risk that could have led to disaster. What were your feelings at the time? Knowing what you know now, about development at this point in the life span, discuss how that behavior makes sense.

4. Someone in emerging adulthood does not have to do Parkour or Extreme Kayaking to engage in risk taking. Discuss at least two other types of risk taking that emerging adults engage in; discuss whether the risk taking is healthy or not; and why you consider it healthy or not. In other words, can there be benefits to risk taking? Explain your answer.
