Development is Happening at a higher cost

Traffic jams cause massive economic loss in Bangladesh. According to a study of BUET, the traffic congestion of Dhaka city costs 4.4 billion dollars annually which is more than 10% of the national budget. Every day 3.8 million working hours are being wasted every day for traffic jams in Dhaka. Metro Rail will save 2.4 billion dollars each year which is equal to 1.5% of the national GDP. Apart from that Metro Rail will ease transportation for more than 15 million people of Dhaka and speed up daily life.

Vehicles in Dhaka run rely on fossil fuels which contribute to environmental pollution and recently too Dhaka topped the list as the world's most polluted city. Metrorail will positively affect the environment as it is "electricity-powered" and carries more passengers per hour so the propensity to travel in Dhaka by bus and other modes of transportation will decline. This will lower the number of vehicles on the road which will be beneficial to the environment.

Experts believe that many small and big industries will be growing in the south-western part of the country along the Padma Bridge route, including manufacturing businesses, RMG, assembling plants, and storage facilities. And thus if the demand for electricity, gas, internet, and the infrastructure in the South-West can be met trade between Nepal and Bhutan with BD will increase due to which the landscape of the south-west may change.
