A horizontal metal bar of length L falls vertically through a horizontal magnetic field of strength B. (a) Show that if the bar falls with speed v, the induced emf between its ends is E = BLv. (b) Suppose B = 0.25 T and L = 0.50 m. What's the induced emf 1.0 s after the bar is dropped from rest? Please show your work. Some helpful info: Equation for emf induced by flux cutting: E = Blv, at B = magnetic flux density, T l = length of the conductor cutting the field, m v = speed at which the conductor cuts the field, m/s Faraday's Law, Newton's Law is used to calculate the velocity. The only force on the bar is from the gravitational force, so the acceleration of the bar = g.
