1) A forearm is supported by the biceps muscle and pivoted at the elbow, as pictured below. The forearm is at a right angle to the upper arm. The weight of the forearm is 12 N and can be treated as being concentrated at a point that is 0.15 m away from the pivot point that is at the elbow. The biceps muscle attachment point is 0.05 m distant from the pivot point. Assume the biceps muscle acts in the vertical direction.

a. Draw a model of the forearm indicating all the forces acting (including their directions), as well as showing all the distances involved. Describe each of the forces.

b. Find the tension force exerted by the biceps muscle when the forearm is kept at a right angle to the upper arm.

c. Find the force exerted by the elbow joint.

2) The position versus time graph in the figure below represents the motion of two persons on roller skates.

a. Describe the motion of both skaters in detail. Analyse the differences in speed, acceleration and direction.

b. Determine their velocities in km/h. Discuss whether these speeds are reasonable for a person on roller skates.
