Assignment - Drawings and Punnett Squares - Cell Cycle
Part A - Mitosis - Use different colors for your chromosome pairs.
1. Neatly draw a cell at interphase with 6 chromosomes (2n = 6) - (3 pairs of chromosomes)
2. Neatly draw that same cell at each of the stages of mitosis (PMAT). Label each stage and be specific in these drawings with the chromosome structure and arrangement, placement of centrioles and spindle fibers, and presence or absence of nuclear membrane.
3. Neatly draw the two resulting cells after cytokinesis.
4. Next to or under each cell, list the main events at each stage, and state whether each cell is diploid (2n) or haploid (n).
Part B - Meiosis - Use different colors for your chromosome pairs.
1. Draw the same cell above if it was at the Metaphase I stage of meiosis. Then draw a second cell at this same stage demonstrating a different random assortment of chromosomes around the cell equator. Include a crossing over event in one pair of chromosomes.
2. Draw the same cell at Metaphase I again, and then draw the two resulting cells at Metaphase II of meiosis. Indicate whether each cell is diploid (2n) or haploid (n).
Mendelian Genetics - Punnett Squares
Part C - Monohybrid Cross - In humans, the normal pigment allele (A) is dominant over the recessive albino allele (a). If two individuals heterozygous (Aa) for the pigment gene mate, what are the chances they will have a child with albinism? Show your work with a Punnett Square. Be sure to show your gametes on top and down the left side of the square.
Part D - Dihybrid Crosses - Following a DdEe x DdEe cross, what fraction of the offspring are predicted to have a genotype that is heterozygous for both characteristics? Show your work using a Punnett square. Be sure to show the gametes on top and down the left side of the Punnett square and fill in the squares with the offspring genotypes.
