Do you think we should still be bound by decisions made by the Founding Fathers? If you could change one precedent that Washington, Adams, or Jefferson set, what would it be?

I do believe that we should be bound by the decisions our founding father made. I believe if we didn't have the constitution we would not be as great of a country and world power as we are today. If there was not set decisions made at the start of our country laws and principles would just change with the times. We have seen many things become abolished or gotten rid of because it is not constitutional, such as slavery. If we did not have the constitution politicians and the officials in the government could many anything and everything they wanted into a law. The Constitution binds us to a set of standards that American has to meet and if anyone strays from that there will be consequences. Think of all of the divide and conflict that has come about in our country. If we didn't have the constitution and other documents to restrict us from making extreme laws, the country could be in terrible shape. I also think the constitution is vague enough to change with the times and be interpreted in many ways.

The precedent that I would change would be how Washington tried to create a very centralized government. He wanted the president to have the most power. This is not ideal in today's times. There should not be one human who has the upmost power in a country. Of course now we have checks and balances but the American people still seem to give the president the most power. A much larger percentage of voters show up for presidential elections than other elections but it is just as important to vote in the best people in other branches of government as well. If citizens are not exercising their right to vote then it is hindering us from voting in the best people to enforce the checks and balances.
