1. Do you agree with Judith Hess that genre films, such as THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, help maintain the status quo of society? Why or why not?

2. Comment to following paragraph.(short comment, one paragraph)

There is evidence that genre films help continue the status quo. I do believe this to be true within some of the older films and in some new films. However, I have also seen a shift in the ways in which some of the genre films go and try to change the stereotypes. For example, Star Wars is one of the bigger science fiction genre films that exist in the whole world. Since Disney took over they have tried to change the image of the space fiction by including more diversity within the human casting and I think this has played dividends as it allows kids and adults to see more people that are similar to themselves. Representation in film matters and some companies such as Disney have tried to change the way that genre films and films in general cast and try to get more diversity to the films so that more people can be represented and for that they can appeal to more customers. However, I think genre films will always exist since they are easier to make and appeal to people since some people have different taste and some people are also loyal to some brands so these films will always be produced but I think they will start challenging more of the status quo in both casting and ideas.
