Geographers use remote sens- ing data from satellite pictures to identify urban land-cover as either grassland, commercial, or res- idential. In Geographical Analysis (October 2006), researchers from Arizona State, Florida State, and Louisiana State Universities collaborated on a new method for analyzing remote sensing data. A satellite photograph of an urban area was dividedinto 4 × 4 meter areas (called pixels). Of interest is a numerical measure of the distribution of gapsor hole sizes in the pixel, called lacunarity. The mean and standard deviation of the lacunarity measurements for a sample of 100 pixels randomly selected from a specific urban area are 225 and 20, respectively. It is known that the mean lacunarity measurement for all grassland pixels is 220. Do the data suggest that the area sampled is grassland?Test at a = .01.
Suppose that a monopolistically competitive firm must build a production facility in order to produce a product. The fixed cost of this facility is FC = $24. Also, the firm has constant marginal cost, MC = $3
Suppose a competitive firm can sell its output for $9 per unit. The following table gives the firm's short run production function. Labor Output 0 0 1 8 2 20 3 35 4 44 5 51 6 54 In the table below, you will determine several points on the firm's d..

A decision maker wishedto maximize total benefit, B=3x+xy+y, subject to the cost of constraint, C=4x+2y=70. Set upthe Lagrangian and then determine the values of x and y at the maximum level of benefit, given the constraint. What are the maximum be..

What are generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)?
Perron suggested that output might best be characterized as trend stationary with breaks. How does this help resolve the question of the importance of shocks to aggregate demand?
People hold $400 million of bank deposits but no currency. Banks have made $380 million dollars of loans and only hold enough reserves to satisfy reserve requirements. Because of uncertainty, banks choose to hold $10 million more in reserves.
