Structure and Content:

Divide and label your Innovation Paper by the following 3 sections, and, quoting from at least one different source in each section, ONLY include information in each section that relates specifically to that section:

Definition (+/- two hundred words ): Begin by defining your innovation 1) in technical terms for an expert audience; then 2) in terms for a general, non-expert/non-specialized audience. This should read like a dictionary definition or the first couple lines of a Wikipedia entry. Make sure it only includes a definition, not any historical data or elaborate examples of how the innovation in action, applied in your field. (A very brief example of its application is fine here, but only if you think its absolutely necessary in order for the reader to fully understand how you're defining the innovation.)

History (+/- four hundred words): Begin with a very short paragraph/statement explaining why the innovation was developed, what problem or situation did the innovation solve (or hope to solve). Then, in the next paragraph or paragraphs, discuss the major historical moments in the evolution of the innovation. Move chronologically from moment to moment, and identify/make 3 statements about each moment: 1) identify the particular development (mentioning the year or years) and what happened or who did what; 2) its significance (or why it was an important moment in the history/development of the innovation; and 3) what that particular development led to, or the impact/influence it had. (Note: that third, final statement you make about each historical development/moment should lead you right into the next major development/moment.

Application (+/- four hundred words): Here, you will give one or more examples detailing how the innovation is applied in the field, or what it looks like in action, and how exactly it might benefit those affected by it. If you choose to focus on only one application, be sure to fully elaborate on it. Choosing two or more is fine, just be sure to explain each example thoroughly yet concisely.
