Case Study - Linda

Linda had been displaying inappropriate behaviour by spitting her food at the dining room table. When this behaviour first commenced she was assessed by the nursing home's speech therapist for swallowing difficulties and her food was pureed. This intervention did not stop her spitting. Linda's spitting was upsetting the other residents at her table, so she was next taken to another area for her meals. Linda agitatedly objected to this. A two week trial was next implemented that provided her meals in her room. Linda's daughter was consulted on this arrangement. On several occasions when collecting her tray, there was no evidence of spitting.

This behaviour was documented and monitored on a Behaviour Assessment Chart.
