In general, employees are protected against dismissal for failing to violate an affirmative public policy enacted into law by state legislatures or though decisions of a State court system. Examples would include protection of employees who report for jury duty or file a worker's compensation claim or refusing to lie to public officials about events they witnessed while working for a company. Do we want to ever extend public policy beyond the affirmative law and protect activity that we may feel is generally in the public interest? If so, what activities?
