Then read about how the Electoral College works here (use pages 1-7) Then read this discussion of the pros and cons of the Electoral College. And lastly, read this suggestion that the popular vote in 1824 was any real evidence of the popular will.

Discuss the outcomes of the two elections and try to explain Jackson's triumph in 1828 as compared to his failure in 1824. What role does party organization play in this?
