Agency presentation

Instructions:

Please select a Canadian Public Safety Organization that you believe you are the best fit for and they are the best fit for you (Lethbridge Police Service, Canadian Border Services Agency, Alberta Sheriffs). The agency you select should be one that you are planning to apply to. You will now conduct research and possibly interviews to learn more about this agency. You will create a continuous 10 minute long video presentation about your findings (no editing / no start and stop and start again). Post your presentation on this discussion board and watch your classmates' presentations to learn more about the agencies - perhaps you will learn about an agency or career opportunity you haven't yet considered.

Since you have been creating presentations throughout the course, your instructor expects you to produce a high quality presentation for this final assignment. You cannot just record yourself speaking about the topic. You must use presentation aids, organize your content, vary your delivery, etc. Please see the rubric for specific expectations and your required readings, Chapters 11, 12, 13 and 15 in your COMM text, which cover creating effective presentations in detail. You may record your video directly into the discussion board. When you click in the "reply" field, a larger writing field will appear. Use this button to open the recording tool. Refer to the rubric to guide you through this portion of the assignment by clicking on the above cog icon and selecting "Show rubric."

If you decide to submit a video in another manner, you MUST ensure your video can be viewed in Canvas. If your instructor cannot see your video, they cannot grade the video. No extensions will be provided to anyone posting a video that is not compatible with Canvas.Canvas will only support the following video types (file extensions):

.asf .mov .mpg .avi .m4v .wmv .mp4 .3gp or .flv

You are not able to present your video presentation in multiple video segments, it must be one continuous video presentation.

You may include in your video presentation a 1 minute video segment from an outside source.

Your presentation should include:
• A brief introduction that includes the agency you chose and why, and how you conducted your research and/or interviews
• A thorough explanation about the agency: its mission, vision, values, where it is located, the services it provides, the community is serves, etc.
• You may include information on the application process or the type of work this agency does and why you are interested in this agency
• A discussion about how the agency addresses/utilizes the competencies introduced in Module 1
• An analysis about the agency's expectations regarding professionalism
• Answers to these questions: Why do you want to apply to this agency? Why do you want to be a police officer or an officer in another Public Safety organization?
