Assessment Item 4:
Introduction
This is a group assessment, and you must work with the same group as planned for assessment items 2 & 3. You will prepare and write a scholarly paper at university level standard. Your group must submit a research report of 2500-3000 words excluding the title, abstract, table of contents and references/bibliography from the word count. Based on your contribution to the report, you will be assessed both as an individual and a group member. You will work on the same topic you chose during your proposal and provide a better-developed and more detailed research report.
This research report provides a detailed description of a proposed research idea. It is like an essay and must be formal with an introduction, body, and conclusion. In addition, it requires a critical analysis and a coherent presentation. Concepts related to research methodology and quantitative research techniques may support the development of the report.
Requirements
Each group is required to submit a research report (2500-3000 words excluding the title, abstract, table of contents, and references/bibliography). The students must prepare and write a scholarly paper at an appropriate standard for this level of study.
You have already done a lot of work for this research in tutorials: you should have tentative research questions, strategies, and evidence to persuade your readers about the significance of the problem you're researching, as well as the validity of your research issues. You also should consider opposing views or good counterarguments that you can address to help establish your credibility and enhance the relevance of your paper.
The research report must contain the following sections, submitted in the order as listed below:
Title Page - This page must clearly state the research topic, student names, student ID and group number.
Abstract - Summarization of the significant concepts in the study focusing on critical aspects (primary results and conclusions).
Table of Contents
Introduction - Outline the background of the field of study, problem, question, etc. (stating the thesis/theory in terms of the relationship among variables and examining the problem or investigating the question, or the like) and a preview of the structure of the paper.
Literature Review - Demonstration of the ability to find significant sources, familiarity with the existing body of knowledge, analysis of existing research, and learning through careful reading of existing research.
Methodology - Procedures and processes undertaken in your investigation/study including the research design - study type, variables, and data collection methods (as applicable). Students may also refer to research approaches while preparing this section.
Discussion and implications of research - Discuss with reasons whether your study needs ethics clearance. Discuss findings that might occur and their potential impact on the field. Relevant understanding of business ethics can also be useful.
Conclusion - Briefly restate the research, highlighting the implications of your research.
References - Include relevant literature sources (in-text citation and a list of full-text references).
Appendices (if applicable) - Tables, graphs, charts, or any other material related to the study not included in the main paper but referred to.
Reflection (Individual Component) - Outline the area of contribution of the team member.
Note: All team members must submit the reflection using their submission link. The team leader needs to submit the reflection and the research report.
Assessment 5:
Assessment Item: Final Presentation (Group)
Introduction
You will complete an oral presentation of your research report in Assessment Item 4 at the end of the study period and will be assessed both as an individual and as a member in the group.
Overview:
In this assessment students need to present their research work to the lecturer/tutor and their class. As a researcher it is very important to develop a skill to present your research in front of an audience. You need to consider your audience before the presentation. A research presentation can be given to your supervisors, faculty of the institute, in the research seminar or international conference. A seminar delivered to an interdisciplinary audience who may not have specialist knowledge of your field will be very different than presenting to a conference that has specialists of your field. In this assessment you need to give an oral presentation of your research work to your peers. Guidance related to oral presentation and visual aids in oral presentation may help in preparing the seminar.
Requirements:
Each group is required to present an oral presentation or seminar of their research. Each student in the group needs to take part in the presentation and will be given 5 minutes to present their part.
This presentation is expected to take 15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for questions and comments from the audience. You are required to use presentation software (PowerPoint or so) for the purpose of this presentation.
This assessment gives the student an opportunity to demonstrate the key aspects of their proposal to an audience and also to receive feedback.
The following topics should be covered:
Introduction
a. Background, context, overview
b. Purpose of the study
Summary of Research Questions and Purpose
a. Research questions, aims, hypothesis (it needs to be clear and specific)
b. Definition of the paradigm and methodology chosen for the study, including the rationale for the choice, introduction to conceptual or theoretical framework
Summary of Relevant Literature
a. Current, balanced, relevant, significant
b. Extensive
Summary of Methods, Methodology and Data Collection
a. Variables used and relations between variables.
b. Data collection and measurement tools
Summary of any consideration/aspect of the research
a. OHS or Safety
b. Ethics etc.
