In this module, you've learned through lecture and literary works the historical, political, and social contexts for the rise and forms of crime and the construction of formal principles of detection. You've also learned through a lectures about the conventions, themes, conventions, and elements of that genre, as well as interpreted and analyzed literary works with those principles in mind.
This is your chance to tie together all the ideas, analysis, and interpretations you've discovered as you read and offer your own analysis of two poems, Anonymous's "Victorian Prison Poem" and Oscar Wilde's "The Ballad of Reading Gaol."
One of the preoccupations of the Victorians was the freedom that seemed to beckon during their times transitioning so quickly. As we know, however, the idea of freedom ran smack into the desire and need for safety, brought about through reliance on established, set rules and limitations.
Both Anonymous' poem and Wilde's poem discuss freedom and justice, how they are defined, what they mean, and what the implications are.
You are to do submission that discusses each of these themes.
Your three hundred word submission must be made in three well-organized, reasoned paragraphs that respond to and are organized as follows and include:
