Although the primary transcript of a gene may be identical in two different cell types, the translated mRNAs can be quite different. Consquently, in different tissues, distinct, distinct protein products can be produced from the same gene. Discuss two different mechanisms by which the production of mature mRNAs can be regulated to this end; give a specific example for each mechanism.
