1) Nervous System and Special Senses
The human brain is the world's fastest computer! It can process information from a simple reflex, like lifting your hand away from a hot stove, or more complex tasks like taking the visual and auditory information associated with a movie or play and interpreting it into a coherent story. The basic machinery that does this is the same. Let's discuss the structure of the neuron, and explain how a nerve impulse is transmitted. Be as detailed as you can!
2) The Endocrine System
As we discussed in Week 1, maintenance of homeostasis is critical to the proper functioning of our bodies; the Endocrine System plays a large role in this process. Let's kick off our discussion by considering some of the feedback loops in the endocrine system. Can you give an example? Pick an organ or a function of the Endocrine System, and identify the parts of a feedback loop for that particular organ/function- stimulus, receptor, control center, effectors, and response!
3) Discrete Probability Variables
What are examples of variables that follow a binomial probability distribution? What are examples of variables that follow a Poisson distribution? When might you use a geometric probability?
In hill reaction What is the expect to happen to absorbance when the test tube is exposed to light? why?
The agouti locus in mice has three alleles: a is recessive and confers a black coat, A is dominant to a and confers an agouti coat, and AY is dominant to both and confers a yellow coat.
If amino acid sequences might be useful in determining how closely related dissimilar species are but may not be very useful for identifying a particular species, suggest two reasons why.
3rd-base wobble allows some tRNAs to recognize more than one mRNA codon. Determine the minimal number of tRNA molecules necessary to recognize the following amino acids?
Discuss the evidence that global climate change is anthropogenic. (Provide solid evidence supporting or refuting this idea, and explain your position on the issue.)
Sickle cell anemia is a disease of red blood cells in which the genetic mutation in DNA leads to a mutation in hemoglobin. A single base vary alters the DNA sequence CTC to CAC which codes for the wrong amino acid. What amino acid is coded for throug..

The Ras protein functions as a molecular switch that is set to its on state by other proteins that cause it to bind GTP. A GTPase-activating protein resets the switch to the off state by inducing Ras to hydrolyze its bound GTP to GDP much more rap..
Explain the events that occur when epinephrine binds to a G-protein coupled receptor in the membrane of a cell. Begin with the binding of the epinephrine and end with the activation of adenylyl cyclase.
