Case Study: One of the main factors that has contributed to growing economic inequality in the U.S. has been the deregulation of certain industries in our economy. Using information from class lectures and from the documentary titled "Inside Job," explain how the deregulation of Wall Street led to collapse of the financial services industry and the Great Recession in 2007. Make sure to give details about what laws were changed and which actors/individuals/corporations benefitted from the changes that were made. Then discuss which groups of people were negatively affected by these changes and how the changes (deregulation) are related to the growth of economic inequality and the redistribution of wealth upwards to the top 1%, and to a lesser extent the top 10%. What do you think should be done to reverse the redistribution of wealth and income to the top? Or, are things fine the way they are?
