Texas Judicial System. In Module 5 we discuss the political nature of the judicial branch. Do you think the judicial branch is as political as the others (legislative and executive)? Explain your answer. This branch of government is widely believed to be the least political compared to the legislative and the executive branches of government due to the primary work of the branch entailing the determination of the extent, manner and application of the law in question. As much as it may be, judges are supposed to reach their verdict concerning the law and the facts, including the efforts for impartiality without partiality to a given political side (The White House, 2021). For example, federal judges are appointed for life, which protects them from the pressures of re-election or other political influences. This lifetime appointment allows them to focus on justice and fairness, as they do not need to worry about pleasing voters or political leaders (The White House, 2021). Even so, politics can still influence the judiciary, especially during the selection of judges. At the federal level, the President nominates judges, and the Senate must confirm them, which means political parties may try to choose.
