Activity 1: WRITING ESSAY

The objective of Activity 1 is to assess your ability to:

- search for information,
- write an essay type of assignment,
- demonstrate logical arguments/discussions with supporting facts and evidences, and
- cite other author's work according to APA citation style

Instructions: Write an essay on the following topic. Your essay should be between 500-750 words only.

People are addicted to social media and they are spending more time daily on social media than ever before.

Discuss the negative effects of social media on people's lives and suggest solutions that will help to reduce the negative impact on them. Support your answer by citing relevant sources.

Your essay should include:

1. Discussion on at least TWO (2) negative effects of social media on people's lives.
2. Discussion on at least TWO (2) solutions that will help to reduce the negative impact of social media on people's lives.
3. References from relevant sources to support your discussions.The essay should contain:

a) Introduction
I. Begin with writing the sub-heading "Introduction."
II. Give a brief overview of the essay topic (social media and its increasing popularity globally.)
III. Provide the purpose of the essay.
iv. Write the scope of the essay (write what are the main ideas that will be covered in your essay).

b) The body of content
I. Provide at least TWO (2) negative effects of social media on people's lives.
II Provide at least TWO (2) solutions that will help to reduce the negative impact of social media on people's lives.
III. Give sub-headings for each of the effects and solutions.
iv. The effectss and the solutions to the issue should be discussed in a logical flow.
v. Support your arguments with supporting facts from other authors by doing in-text citations.
vi. Search for e-books and e-journals in the OUM Digital Library and/or the Internet database.

c) Conclusion
I. Begin with writing the sub-heading "Conclusion."
II. Summarise the essay by briefly describing key points that you have written for the Introduction and the body of content.
III. Conclude your views on the discussion.

ACTIVITY 2: MS POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

The objective of Activity 2 is to assess your ability to prepare a powerpoint presentation slides, using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Instructions: Prepare a PowerPoint presentation based on your essay in Activity 1.

a) The presentation structure should include:
I. Title Page
II. Presentation outline
III. Introduction
iv. Body of content (3 -4 slides; negative effects of social media and how to reduce it)
v. Conclusion
b) Number of slides between 7 to 8 slides.

c) The presentation design should include:
i. One design template. Do not use a blank, default or axis design template.
ii. 1 slide Transition
ill 1 Custom Animation
iv. 1 Image (example: dip art, diagram, photo, chart, or screen shot).
v. 1 Hyperlink (link to the Internet)
vi. 1 Action Link (link to the object/slide)

ACTIVITY 3: MS EXCEL CHART

The objective of Activity 3 is to assess your ability to convert data to create a chart using Microsoft Excel.

Instructions: Prepare a bar chart based on the data as shown in Table 1, using Microsoft Excel software. Table 1 shows percentage of respondents' usage of popular social media sites in United States as of 2016 according to gender.

Your chart should include:
a) Chart title
b) X axis title
c) Y axis title
d) Legend labels
e) Subject names
f) Accurate information presentation
g) Neat and attractive presentation

ACTIVITY 4: INFORMATION EVALUATION

The objective of Activity 4 is to assess your ability to evaluate information based on the five information evaluation criteria.

Instructions: Search for information on "Teenager Crime" and evaluate the information based on the five information evaluation criteria.

Steps to do this activity:

1. Search the term "Social Media Effects" on the Internet search engine (eg. Google).

2. Select ONE (1) of the information listed from the search. The selected information can be from website, article, video or any other source.

3. Evaluate the information based on the five information evaluation criteria, namely authority, objectivity, accuracy and reliability, currency and scope.

4. Complete the details of the selected information in Table 2.
